Zubeen Garg Death Mystery: Assam CM Drops Bombshell on Alcohol Conspiracy & Miya Politics Link

§  Zubeen Garg death mystery deepens as Assam CM Himanta reveals shocking alcohol conspiracy. Full investigation details inside.

§  Zubeen Garg death conspiracy: Assam CM Himanta reveals shocking alcohol plot. 7 arrested, chargesheet by Dec 10. #JusticeForZubeenGarg crosses 5M posts.

§  Assam CM alleges Zubeen Garg was forced to drink alcohol for wealth exploitation. Murder investigation chargesheet deadline December 2025.

Guwahati, November 20, 2025: In a stunning revelation that has sent shockwaves across Assam and beyond, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has alleged that cultural icon Zubeen Garg was deliberately forced to consume alcohol by people close to him as part of a calculated conspiracy to misappropriate his wealth. The explosive statement comes exactly two months after the legendary singer’s mysterious death in Singapore on September 19, 2025 and just days before authorities are expected to file the long-awaited chargesheet in the case.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an event in Nalbari, western Assam on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, CM Sarma painted a disturbing picture of exploitation and betrayal. “Zubeen was made to drink alcohol by people who wanted to lay their hands on his money. Such people exploited him. Many explosive details have come to light in the ongoing investigation,” the Chief Minister stated emphatically. He further clarified that Garg was manipulated by people close to him and was not an alcohol consumer by choice, directly contradicting the public persona often associated with the singer.

The investigation has taken a dramatic turn with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah granting crucial sanction under Section 208 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on November 18, 2025 — coinciding with what would have been Zubeen Garg’s 53rd birth anniversary. This legal clearance enables the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to formally file charges against the accused and proceed with the trial in Indian courts for a crime committed outside the country.

The Singapore Tragedy: What Really Happened.?

The 52-year-old music legend died while swimming in the sea off Saint John’s Island in Singapore during a yacht outing organized by members of the Assam Association. He had traveled to the city-state to participate as a cultural brand ambassador for the fourth edition of the North East India Festival, scheduled to begin on September 20, 2025.

Initial reports described the incident as a scuba diving accident but details quickly shifted to drowning during a swim without a life jacket. Witnesses reported that Garg lost consciousness in the water and was administered CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the intensive care unit around 2:30 PM IST.

However, the circumstances surrounding his final moments have raised numerous red flags. According to investigation documents, Garg’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami alleged that the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma behaved suspiciously prior to the death and forcibly took control of the yacht from its sailor during the outing, putting passengers at risk. Goswami, who is himself among the arrested, claimed that Sharma was heard saying “Jabo De, Jabo De” (translation: “Let him go, Let him go”) as Garg struggled in the water.

The investigation also revealed suspicious financial transactions totaling Rs 1 crore in the bank accounts of Garg’s two personal security officers — Rs 70 lakh in one PSO’s account and Rs 40 lakh in the other. Both PSOs, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, were provided to the singer in 2013 after he received death threats from ULFA but did not accompany him to Singapore.

Seven Arrests and Murder Charges

The Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) formed a 10-member Special Investigation Team to probe all angles, from negligence to conspiracy and murder. So far, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, all currently in judicial custody,

·       Shyamkanu Mahanta — North East India Festival organizer

·       Siddharth Sharma — Zubeen’s longtime manager who handled all his finances and travel

·       Sandipan Garg — The singer’s cousin and suspended Assam Police Service officer

·       Shekhar Jyoti Goswami — Bandmate and drummer

·       Amritprava Mahanta — Co-singer

·       Nandeswar Bora — Personal Security Officer

·       Paresh Baishya — Personal Security Officer

The accused face non-bailable charges including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, murder and causing death by negligence. The Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Guwahati has remanded them to judicial custody with five held in Baksa district jail and two in Haflong jail.

SIT chief Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that investigators have recorded statements from over 160 witnesses and received most forensic reports from laboratories. The team also traveled to Singapore to coordinate with local authorities and gather additional evidence about Garg’s final moments.

The Wealth Conspiracy Theory

CM Sarma’s latest allegations add a sinister financial motive to the investigation. “Certain people made Zubeen consume alcohol as part of a conspiracy to loot his money and wealth. Alcohol was not his identity. His identity was his music and his voice against injustice,” Sarma declared.

The Chief Minister revealed that people close to Garg exploited his “simple and innocent nature” to force him to drink as part of a larger plan to gain control over his assets. “The public will come to know more about it after the charge sheet is filed,” he added, promising that explosive details would emerge.

Zubeen Garg was widely regarded as the highest-paid singer in Assam and had accumulated substantial wealth over his three-decade career spanning more than 40 languages and dialects. His portfolio included personal royalties, a 60% stake in Zubeen Garg Music LLP, extensive real estate and earnings from countless live performances across India and abroad.

Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg has consistently suspected foul play and questioned why her husband — who suffered from epilepsy and seizures — was taken on a yacht party and allowed to swim without a life jacket despite doctors’ warnings to avoid water and fire. “He was extremely exhausted that day. Everyone knew he had a medical condition. Still, he was taken to a yacht party, into the water and allowed to swim without a life jacket. Why was my husband treated like this.?” Garima demanded in an exclusive interview.

The Miya Muslims Political Angle

In a controversial twist, CM Sarma also alleged that a section of migrant Muslims is misusing Zubeen Garg’s name to shield government land encroachers from eviction drives. “Some are politicising the name of Zubeen so that the Miya people are not evicted from encroached land. There is no love for Zubeen,” he stated bluntly.

The term “Miya” is a pejorative reference to Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam, many of whom have roots in present-day Bangladesh. The Chief Minister attributed this alleged exploitation to “Miya politics” — a contentious issue in Assam where thousands of Bengali-origin Muslim families have been evicted from forest and government lands since 2021.

Since June 2025, the BJP-led Assam government intensified eviction drives targeting Bengali-speaking Muslims, displacing over 5,300 families from various districts. The government claims these communities pose a threat to Assam’s demography and labels many as illegal migrants from Bangladesh, though most possess citizenship documents and have lived in the state for generations.

The eviction drive was temporarily paused following Zubeen Garg’s sudden death on September 19 but resumed in November 2025. CM Sarma has repeatedly stated that his government will not evict the “indigenous population” but will continue actions against “suspected foreigners” and “unauthorised occupation” by those who came from Bangladesh.

Opposition parties, particularly the Congress have accused the BJP government of using evictions as part of polarization politics ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for early 2026. The linking of Zubeen Garg’s death to “Miya politics” has further intensified the already volatile political atmosphere in the state.

·       #JusticeForZubeenGarg: A Digital RevolutionThe demand for justice has transformed into one of Assam’s largest social media movements in history. The hashtag #JusticeForZubeGarg crossed a staggering 3 million mentions across platforms by October 23, 2025. What began as scattered posts of grief on September 22 evolved into a unified call for accountability and transparency.

Zubeen’s wife Garima changed her Facebook cover photo to a tribute image with the hashtag, signaling her full support for the movement. She urged people to continue demanding justice: “We have to know what had happened. It is 22 days now and we still don’t know what happened. Keep using the hashtag every time. We are waiting patiently but we have to get justice”.

The campaign found powerful allies among actors, singers, filmmakers and cultural figures from Assam and Northeast India. Renowned sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik even sculpted a mural of Zubeen on Puri Beach in Odisha, transforming grief into visual protest. The movement’s motto became clear: “No rumours, only truth”.

The Chargesheet Countdown

With the Union Home Ministry’s sanction now secured, the SIT has committed to filing the chargesheet by December 10, 2025. “This sanction allows us to file the charge sheet and move ahead firmly and lawfully for the trial of the case. We remain committed to filing the charge sheet against the accused persons by December 10,” CM Sarma announced on Zubeen’s birth anniversary.

The charge sheet is expected to reveal comprehensive details about the conspiracy including the financial transactions, the events leading up to the Singapore trip, the suspicious behavior of the accused on the yacht and the alleged plot to exploit Zubeen’s wealth through forced alcohol consumption.

Singapore Police have confirmed that their investigation found no evidence of foul play as of now, stating the cause of death as drowning. However, the Assam authorities are pursuing charges based on evidence of conspiracy, negligence and suspicious conduct by those in Garg’s inner circle.

A Cultural Icon’s Legacy Under Threat

Zubeen Garg was far more than a singer — he was the heartbeat of Assam, a cultural ambassador who sang in over 40 languages and became a household name across India with his Bollywood hit “Ya Ali” from the 2006 film Gangster. He was also politically active, opposing controversial citizenship laws and challenging traditional beliefs, which earned him both admiration and controversy.

His sudden death paralyzed Guwahati with thousands lining the 25-kilometer route from the airport to his Kahilipara residence to pay respects. Shops closed, services stopped and the state observed three days of mourning. The grief was not merely for losing an artist but for losing an emblem of Assamese identity.

CM Sarma made an emotional appeal on Zubeen’s birth anniversary, urging youth to honor his legacy through acts of social good like blood donation and helping underprivileged children rather than indulging in alcohol. “This is how we can keep Zubeen Garg alive for eternity,” Sarma stated.

What Lies Ahead

As the December 10 deadline approaches, all eyes are on the Special Investigation Team and the promised revelations in the chargesheet. The case has become a litmus test for the Assam government’s commitment to justice, especially with Assembly elections looming in early 2026.

The allegations of forced alcohol consumption, wealth exploitation and the political controversy surrounding “Miya Muslims” have created a perfect storm of emotion, suspicion and demand for accountability. Whether the chargesheet will satisfy the millions demanding justice or raise more questions remains to be seen.

Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima summed up the collective sentiment: “We don’t want any trouble, we want justice peacefully. We are waiting patiently but we have to get justice”.

Conclusion: Truth Must Prevail

The mysterious death of Zubeen Garg has exposed deep fissures in Assam’s social and political landscape — from allegations of betrayal by trusted associates to the controversial intersection of cultural grief and communal politics. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s explosive claims about alcohol conspiracy and wealth exploitation have added another layer to an already complex investigation.

As Assam waits for the December 10 chargesheet, one thing is clear: the demand for truth and justice will not be silenced. The #JusticeForZubeenGarg movement represents more than grief — it embodies a collective refusal to let the circumstances of a beloved icon’s death remain shrouded in mystery.

The singer who gave voice to millions now relies on those millions to ensure his final story is told truthfully. In the words of one fan who captured the movement’s essence: “We are not against anyone. We are just standing for the truth — for Zubeen Da, who always stood for us”.
